Pillows play an important role in bringing a room together. Proper pillow placement is a must to showcase a living room or bedroom to its fullest potential. There are a number of different components to proper pillow placement. Let's break it down.
1. Number - You want to make sure you don't have too many pillows or too little of pillows. The proper amount for a sofa for example is 3-5 pending the size of the pillow and size of the sofa. I did a recent stage where I used 3 pillows and a throw. This was a smaller sofa and too many pillows would have overpowered the design impact I was going for in the room. A bedroom can have more pillows to create a luxury feel.
2. Colour - Matching your pillows to the colour scheme that is in the room. If the walls are a neutral colour, have some fun with the pillows. A solid colour is a must for at least 1 of the pillows. The other pillows can have a fun print or design on them, as long as all the colours go together. Have some fun with it. Pillows are something that are easily interchangeable pending the season.
3. Placement - This is also something you can have fun with. Typically for staging, I prefer a symmetrical look with 2 pillows on one side of a sofa and 1 or 2 on the other. In a bedroom, I place the pillows in the centre of the bed alternating solid colours and prints, ending with one pillow in the front.
Throw pillows are a fun way to add colour to a neutral looking couch or room and an excellent way to bring in a different dimension. Have fun with the placement and if you need some help, check out our Instagram and Facebook pages for design fun!
